I struggle with this fear all the time… not knowing where my life is going.
I have big dreams and aspirations, but I also find myself questioning everything almost every single day. Am I capable enough? Am I wasting my time? What if someone else could do this so much better than I ever could? Sometimes I look at what God has placed in my hands… my skills, my current circumstances, my daily work… and it feels so small. Too ordinary. It is easy to believe the lie that God could probably accomplish so much more through someone else.
But I’ve been realizing that in those moments of doubt, my focus has shifted away from Him and onto myself. I’m looking at my abilities and my own limitations. And that is exactly how fear grows.
Shifting Focus From Your Lack to His Plan
The truth is, I’ll never find enough confidence just by looking at myself. There’ll always be another reason to doubt, another weakness to notice, or another comparison to make. That’s why God doesn’t ask me to have confidence in my own strength. He wants my confidence in Him. Because His love and faithfulness is sure and steadfast.
I keep coming back to the comforting reassurance of Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
I love that God says, “I know the plans.” That single phrase takes so much pressure off my shoulders. My peace is found in knowing the One who is in control. My fears, worries, and anxieties have no place in His presence.
Trusting Him means believing that He’s still leading me, even when I can’t yet see where the path turns. He isn’t limited by what I think I’m lacking. All He asks for is my willingness to let Him lead.

The Lord is always steering my life in the direction He has planned for me, as long as I allow Him to. Hand-lettering these encouraging words in a cute and playful doodle style was a prayer for my heart to stop looking inward or around me… and instead start looking upward to God.

Maybe today is simply a little invitation to lay down your self-doubt and trust the One who already sees the final destination. Because if God is the one leading you, you can completely trust where He is taking you.

What’s the context of Jeremiah 29:11?
This Bible verse was written by the prophet Jeremiah in a letter to the Jewish exiles who were forced to live in Babylon. God was telling them that even though they were facing a long, difficult seventy-year season of waiting in a difficult place, His long-term intentions for them were good, redemptive, and full of hope.
Does Jeremiah 29:11 mean nothing bad will happen to me?
No. The word “prosper” in the original Hebrew text is shalom, which means wholeness, peace, physical well-being, welfare, prosperity-essentially an all encompassing word for well-being. It doesn’t mean a life free of trouble or challenges. That said, we can always trust that God will never let us go through tough situations that He would not use for our benefit. Whenever we encounter such moments, we can pray about it while having full assurance that we are coming out to a better place.
How do I stop comparing my path to someone else’s?
Comparison grows when we view life as a race with limited prizes, and forget God’s unlimited supply. Scripture reminds us that God has distinct plans for each of His children – we are made on purpose, for His purpose. Remember that your steps are uniquely ordered by a loving Father, who has unending grace that abounds to you. So you can gladly cheer others on while staying secure in the specific lane He has assigned to you.

You can let go of the pressure to be qualified today. You don’t have to be strong enough when the One leading you is capable. You are deeply loved, purposefully placed, and securely guided by the One who is always with you through it all.
