Finding My Worth in Who God Says I Am: A Faith-Based Reflection on Identity in Christ

Last updated on January 12th, 2026 at 06:50 pm

Sometimes I measure my worth by what I do… by how much I’ve achieved, how far I’ve come, how “together” everything looks on the outside.

And yet, deep down, I know that this kind of striving can never bring me peace.

Because worth that depends on what I do… can vanish as quickly as it’s found.

But the worth that comes from who God says I am?

That can’t be taken away.

Remembering Who I Am in Him

There are moments I feel behind… like I should’ve figured more out by now.

I compare my pace to others and forget that I’m never supposed to compete, only to trust.

Psalm 139:14 (NKJV) reminds me:

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”

This verse brings me back to the truth:

I was already seen, already known, already loved.

I don’t need to chase what God has already called good.

And in Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV), I’m reminded again…

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Even when I can’t see the full picture, God is still writing something beautiful.

Every part of my story is held in His hands… even the parts I don’t understand yet.

Made in His Image

Genesis 1:27 says,

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him”

To be made in His image means I carry His likeness… creativity, wisdom, purpose.

It means my identity is not found in my performance, but in His presence.

Maybe that’s what it truly means to rest in who we are:

no longer chasing worth, but living from it.

Freedom in Becoming

There’s comfort in remembering that our identity is not earned.

It’s received.

We are chosen (1 Peter 2:9), loved (Romans 8:38–39), and free (Galatians 5:1).

Even in the waiting, Philippians 1:6 (ESV) promises that,

“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.”

So if you feel like you’re still “in progress,”

take heart… you’re right where God’s grace meets you.

You’re not behind; your journey is unfolding in His timing.

A Visual Reminder of Truth

This reflection is the foundation of my new Identity in Christ art collection – a series of hand-drawn and hand-lettered pieces inspired by Scripture verses Psalm 139:14, Ephesians 2:10, and Genesis 1:27.

Each artwork was created as a gentle reminder of who we are in Him… fearfully made, purposefully called, and deeply loved.

Sometimes we just need something to help us refocus on what matters.

That’s what these pieces were made for – to fill your space with peace and promise.

Closing Reflection

If your heart feels weary from trying to prove your worth… maybe it’s time to pause.

You don’t need to earn what grace already gave you.

You are His masterpiece.

You are chosen, known, and loved… right where you are.

Let your heart rest in this truth: you don’t have to prove anything to be fully known and loved.

Nothing you do can add to the love God already gives you. 💕
