Christian Coloring Pages: How Faith-Based Coloring Helps Me Meditate on God’s Word

Some days, my mind feels like it’s running on overdrive.
Even when I want to pause with God… sometimes I just don’t have the energy for a full Bible chapter.
That’s when I reach for something simple, relaxing, and hands-on… like coloring.

How coloring helps me focus on Scripture
Coloring has slowly become part of my faith routine.
It’s not about making something perfect or Instagram-worthy.
It’s about giving my hands something to do while my mind rests.
While I fill in shapes or add little touches within the letters of a verse, I notice words I might otherwise rush past.
It’s meditative. Grounding. A way to pause and sit with God’s Word without pressure.
Even a small page… a single verse or a simple doodle… can feel meaningful.
Ways I use coloring in my quiet time
Here’s what works for me:
- Coloring Scripture slowly: I pick a page with a verse for quiet time. Then I slowly add color to it, letting the words settle in. My thoughts shift from worry or busyness to reflection… And I feel calmer and more present.
- Adding simple doodles: Sometimes I doodle small icons, shapes, or patterns around a page. These aren’t “art projects”… they’re a way to meditate with my hands while I think about God’s Word.
- Using digital, printable pages: Some days I grab a digital coloring page on my iPad. Other days, I use a printed page from my collection. Either way, the goal is the same: a quiet, low-pressure space to connect with Scripture creatively.
- Short bursts are enough: Even ten to fifteen minutes of coloring… one verse or faith quote… one small section… is more than enough to feel present. It’s not about finishing a whole page or “doing it right.” It’s about showing up.

Why I keep coming back to coloring
Coloring has reminded me that faith can be simple, creative, and restorative.
I don’t need a big block of time.
I don’t need perfect skills.
I just need to show up, take a few quiet minutes, and let the act of coloring guide me back to God’s Word.
It’s a gentle way I’ve learned to slow down, reflect, and reconnect.
A little invitation
If you’ve been looking for a creative, low-pressure way to spend time with God, I share a free weekly faith-based creative reflection in my studio letter right below this post.
Each week includes:
- One Scripture verse
- One small reflection
- One simple creative or journaling prompt
It’s meant to help you pause, reflect, and engage with Scripture in a relaxing, meditative way… perfect for busy or overwhelming seasons.
You’re welcome to join if it feels like something that would support you.
Coloring doesn’t have to be impressive.
Sometimes it’s just one page, one verse, one quiet moment… and that is sufficient.
